WORLD CHAMPIONS

After gaining 4th place at the 2011 World Championships in Dublin, Christine, Conor and Liam decided to strive for another year, this time with not one but two figure dance teams. With exceptional choreography and dynamic music, the 25 dancers were chosen and began a strict training schedule through a gruelling Australian summer in preparation for their trip to the World Championships in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

On Sunday April 8 2012, the Christine Ayres School became the Senior Over 16 Girls Figure Dance and Senior Over 16 Mixed Figure Dance World Champions. A feat never  previously achieved by an Australian Irish dancing school.

Six years after their success in Belfast, the teachers (and dancers) couldn't resist and decided to return to the World Championships. With additional teaching staff and an almost entirely new squad of dancers, another summer of non-stop Irish dancing dedication began. Once again taking two figure dance and three eight hand ceili teams, they travelled to Glasgow, Scotland in March 2018 to compete at the 48th World Championships.

The hard work paid off, as once again the Christine Ayres School took home 1st place in the Over 13 Mixed Figure Championship and 3rd place in the Over 16 Ladies Figure Championship. With the 8-hand teams also receiving 4th, 5th and 11th, the school has cemented itself as arguably the most successful team dancing school in Australia.
